Open the Box...

Here is a little something to play around with while I write up a few of my dreams that I have had lately (Lori you are going to "LOVE" one of them!)

I have finally found a little bit of time to explore Pandora. It is fascinating. It allows you to explore all kinds of music. It is part of the Music Genome Project where each song is analyzed based on over 400 musical characteristics. Using these characteristics they can suggest songs by artists you never imagined you would like.

Pandora allows you to create stations and refine them. For example if they play an artist you can't stand or a song you hate, you can click on it and mark it as "don't play again." If you are just tired of it but don't want to drop it from the rotation you can tell it to not play it for a month. You can create as many stations as you wish or play the preset stations (while refining them to your taste) all for free. The collection of music seems reasonably updated (at least through 2006).

I chose a Jewel station and heard a couple of her songs along with Santana, Madonna, Jonatha Brooks, Alyanis Morrisette (skipped that one), Marly, Hootie and the Blowfish. The Kelly Clarkson station gave me of course Kelly, but also Ashlee Simpson, The Veronicas, Celine Dion (skipped), Pink to name a few.
